Mrs. Oates began her education career in 2003 as a special education teacher at Liberty Middle School. Since that time, she has had the opportunity to work with students and families as a special education teacher, reading specialist, and assistant principal at Liberty Middle School, Laurel Meadow Elementary School, and John M. Gandy Elementary School.
Mrs. Oates grew up in Mechanicsville (she is a former Cardinal!) and is a graduate of Atlee High School. She received her bachelor of science in special education from James Madison University. She received her master’s degree for Literacy and Culture from Longwood University and her master's degree for administration from University of Virginia. She currently lives in Mechanicsville with her husband, four children, and Duke, her german shepherd mix. She enjoys reading, watching movies, and going to the beach.
Mrs. Oates is excited to be a part of this amazing community and to work alongside staff, students, and families to build a culture of CARE (control, attitude, respect, and empathy)!
