Dear Elementary School Families,
We hope you are well. We are writing to share with you an exciting update regarding afterschool childcare.
At last night’s School Board meeting, we shared an update on our ongoing efforts to ensure that every elementary school in our school division has on-site afterschool childcare available to students and families. As you may know,
we have partnered with a national program called Right at School to accomplish this goal. While four schools (Ashland ES, Laurel Meadow ES, Pearson’s Corner ES, and Rural Point ES) have launched Right at School this spring, we are excited to share that
beginning this fall, the Right at School program will be available at our other remaining elementary schools that do not currently offer afterschool childcare. For instance, Kersey Creek ES and Mechanicsville ES already have on-site YMCA afterschool childcare, meaning Right at School will not be at those two schools.
Please note the following with regard to the afterschool program:
- Right at School offers one-, two-, three-, four-, and five-day options for families.
- The program offers childcare on student holidays as well.
- Financial assistance is available for qualifying families.
- There are discounts for siblings and staff members.
- The program runs until 6 p.m. each day.
In addition to afterschool childcare next school year,
Right at School will be offering summer childcare at Rural Point ES. Please note the following with regard to the summer program:
- There will be nine themed weeks.
- While the program is housed at Rural Point ES, it is open to incoming kindergarteners through rising seventh graders from across the county.

There will be a virtual parent forum on Tuesday, March 17 at 6 p.m. for information and answers to questions about the Right at School program. The Zoom meeting will be available
here.
