Student Hours
Students may enter the school building between 7:45 a.m. and 8:05 a.m. There is no adult supervision for students prior to 7:45 a.m. Our school day officially begins at 8:05 a.m.; therefore, any students arriving after 8:05 a.m. are officially tardy. If your child arrives after 8:05 a.m., please park in a designated parking spot and enter the building to sign him/her in so he/she can receive a tardy pass. A student who is consistently tardy misses vital instruction. Please strive to have your children at school on time daily. It will help to develop a positive pattern for them as they mature.
Morning Arrival for Car Riders
Please review the items below in order to ensure that drop-off (and pick-up) times are safe for students, drivers, and buses:
- At no time can cars be left unattended in non-designated parking spaces or lanes.
- At no time should you pull in to drop off OR park in the parking lot to the left of the main building. THIS IS THE BUS LOOP.
- Please pull all the way forward as directed by staff on duty. DO NOT stop in front of the main office doors if you are being directed to continue to move forward. This holds up the line substantially and back traffic out onto Atlee Road.
- The safest place for your child is inside the car with you until they exit safely from the right side directly onto the sidewalk in the designated drop-off loop. Parents SHOULD NOT get out of the car to get a child out. Let our staff help. All kisses, hugs, bookbag packing, etc. should occur in the car and BEFORE it’s time for your child to exit the vehicle.
- A student should exit their car IF there is a sidewalk on their right. Otherwise, have your child stay in your car until you are able to pull forward.
- Preschool parents are required to walk their child into and out of the building. This increases foot traffic in the parking lot and crossing the drop-off line to enter the building. Therefore, all parents are asked to drive slowly and with caution at all times during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.
- We ask that every parent drop off their child in the designated parent drop-off lane. If you enter the parking lot, you are expected to park and walk your child into the school. No one should be dropping their child off from the parking lot.
In the event of adverse weather, we want to remind everyone to plan ahead for drop-off, especially on rainy, snowy, or icy mornings. Expect longer lines and slower traffic.
Your patience and careful driving help keep all students safe during drop-off (and pick up).

Yellow arrows denote the location and path of the Drop-Off line. Red Xs denote the areas that cars should NOT drop off students. Blue lines indicate the crosswalk where parents should cross with their child when walking them into the building.
Notifying Staff of Changes in Afternoon Dismissal Plans
If you know that your child’s typical dismissal plan will change, please fill out the TRANSPORTATION NOTE. If an emergency arises and you need to make a last minute change, please call the school office at (804) 723-3640. Please do not e-mail or text transportation changes.
Early Dismissal for Appointments
If your child has a medical appointment that requires early dismissal, please complete and send in a MES CHANGE IN DISMISSAL PLAN form to make your child’s teacher and office staff aware. Parents wishing to pick their children up prior to our regular dismissal (2:45 p.m.) should do so in the office before 2:25 p.m. No dismissals will occur between 2:25 p.m. and 2:45 p.m.
Afternoon Parent Pick-Up
To help the flow of traffic around the area, please do not arrive for parent pick up prior to 2:35 p.m.(unless you are PreK). Thank you for helping make this process as smooth as possible. To assist with that please adhere to the following:
- Please do not arrive early due to traffic concerns.
- Enter the parking lot area that is closest to the main office building (has school name on front).
- Several staff members will be present to direct you through the car line. Please follow their instructions, especially if they ask you to pull up.
- Display Parent Pick Up tag either on your dashboard or hold it up so a staff member can clearly see it.
- Your child will be called from the diner to come out to the car line. Stay will be assisting students get to their vehicle.
